review Collected Essays 4 Travel 103 Collected Essays 4 TravelI had read some snippets of Lovecraft's travel essays before but I ordered the collected essays while planning my own trip to Montreal one of Lovecraft's essays was on uebec City which I had thought I might visit The collection contains some uite extensive writings on a number of cities and sites Lovecraft visited and a travelogue of Europe in 1932 which he revised for Sonia Greene his ex wife The writing is somewhat dry generally scholarly and not nearly as interesting as his fiction but still fascinating in its own right and colored by his rather uniue prejudices in this case not so much his racial prejudices though they are apparent but rather his Anglophilia and ardent wish that the British would have defeated the rebellious colonies in the Revolution he peppers his writing with references to His Britannick Majesty and God save the king
