doc × text СвидетельствоÑ connecfloor СвидетельствоThis was amazing We are often told of a composer's thought process in school but here we can get at the words of the man himself And they are extraordinary words There's really very little in here that is self congratulatory or egotistical The writings reveal a very humble and hardworking man who was deeply tormented by the state of affairs of his mother country in the era of StalinAmusingly he even met the man several times He was in constant fear of being censored and shot just like every other artist of the time But he also didn't play the flattery game didn't go in for politicsjust worked It's a miracle he outlived Stalin especially considering how full of satire and even anger much of his works were toward his own government He has no kind words for Stalin in this book In fact it's packed with intensely horrific descriptions of the man not his physical appearance but his soulThough with all of the

doc × text СвидетельствоÑ connecfloor СвидетельствоThis is an insightful look into the nature history and past of one of classical music's most mysterious figures Volkov's picture of Shostakovich is bright and forthcoming and after the reading of Testimony one can walk away feeling as if they have come to know Shostakovich a great deal better Though there is much controversy surrounding this

doc × text СвидетельствоÑ connecfloor СвидетельствоI give Shostakovich himself 5 stars but I can only give this 3 because of the sketchy circumstances under which it was written Really I have no idea what the truth is at this point but certainly enough people have talked about it The idea is that Solomon Volkov may have made up a lot of it but even if it was stuff Shostakovich said it was at the very end of his life when he was really cranky and in a lot of pain I would say depressing stuff I didn't mean in that case too So although it's an interesting read from a historical deb

doc × text СвидетельствоÑ connecfloor Свидетельство Can music attack evil Can it make men stop and think Can it cry out and thereby draw men’s attention to various vile acts to which he has become accustomed to the things he passes without any interestShostakovich spent a large part of his creative life in the oppressive environment with which Stalin blanketed the Soviet Union That he managed to endure is an impressive accomplishment

doc × text СвидетельствоÑ connecfloor СвидетельствоShostakovich had a sad life He said at the end of the book every day of my life brings no joy He knew a lot of talented and important people and he was very talented himself but he was not happy He lived under Stalin's rule In this book he tells how terrible Stalin was and tells many stories about how Stalin killed the blind the successful and the highly skilled Stalin was easily jealous unpredictable and very destructive Russia at the time of Shostakovich was not a good place to live There is one story that he relates that is very amusing about Stalin asking the great composers of Russia to compose a new Russian anthem He tells Shostakovich and Khachaturain that they have to collaborate on the anthem Their styles are very different but they have no choice they do as Stalin commands Some composers submi
