characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetThe most improbable aspect of this book is that we as readers are supposed to believe that someone as hapless altruistic and honest could possibly be a member of parliament If you can manage to suspend that belief then you will find it enjoyable amusing and at times gruesome For me a well paced book with a good mix of characters but most importantly a different and interesting story

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetNot as pacy as other novels by Dobbs and the torture scenes a bit too graphic for me but an unusual mix of Westminster sculduggery and a spotlight on the oppression suffered by Tibet from the Chinese government Thomas Goodfellowe is an interesting character on his way down in his political career bumbling through his private life but a powerful and resourceful manipulator

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetA very enjoyable read Dobbs is better known for the House of Cards but I have far enjoyed the Goodfellowe series Even if you are not a fan of Cards give Goodfellowe a try

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetOriginally published on my blog here in November 1998The Buddha of Brewer Street is the second of Michael Dobbs' new series about politics featuring Thomas Goodfellowe MP whose name formed the title of the first book Clearly disenchanted with the biting satire of his first political series the House of Cards trilogy Dobbs has embarked on something far gentler in that r

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetI have to agree with some of the other reviews for this as the beginning was a little slow But despite the pace I somehow was getting lost uite a bit Dobbs jumps between the different characters and is a little ambiguous for a while so you wonder who you are with right at that moment and it turns out you are in the Himalayas and then next you are in Chinatown in London However once the storyline began to pick up it was easier to follow these jumps around the world So the actual storyline was very interesting I'm not usually into this kind of political scandal but I very much enjoyed the turn of events Also the Prologue takes you back to 1959 a world that seems so far away from our present day and Dobbs captures this moment so well As a character Goodfellowe or Tummo Goodfella is not very likeable But there are some moving moments and you really come to love his courage and occasionally personality I would rec

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetThis poor book has lingered a long time in the I am reading this status I often have than one book being read at a given time and this one had to take a back seat to a few that needed to be read in a timely fashion But despite the lag time from first picking the book up till finishing it just now the story didn't sufferI had never met Tom Goodefellow or Tummo Godfella before and found him a decent likable character despite being a politician I found myself caught up in the descriptions of life in China Town and Tibet I am relatively naive about the politics rumbling around with China and Tibet so this was of interest Poor Tom was a bit down on his luck though with life in general I hope he can get his relationships with women daught

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetI went in expecting a classic normal page turning semi mysteryadventure bool That's what ya get Pretty fun book I'm glad it didn't overplay any aspect of romantic parts and left most of that away from the main character I wish that movies could have story telling being them and less just in your face action This one was good the thinking and characters and development Less of an in your face action stuff Fun read It's wild to think about what is gonna happen when the current Dali Lama dies

characters The Buddha of Brewer Street 100 The Buddha of Brewer StreetThis author came highly recommended but I cannot say I enjoyed this book About 50 pages in there was a very graphic torture scene that comes out of nowhere It was dark and left me feeling horrible I'm not looking for literature with rose coloured glasses but if I am reading something for entertainment I don't want to feel sullied by the book I won't be trying any of his other books
